Is There a God?

By Sheerah Fisher

"Is there are God?" That is the question some people look for the answer to, their whole lives. It's just a simple yes or no answer, why is it so difficult to find? Another question that goes along with it is "How did we get here?" My purpose is to put those questions to rest for good.

The Big Bang Theory, Evolution, Christianity, there are too many answers to such a simple question. So what is the right one? The Big Bang Theory teaches there is no God, and that we and the rest of the universe were created by a huge explosion. Charles Darwin's theory of Evolution fits hand in hand with the Big Bang Theory. Evolution suggests that we started out as single cells in the water, and then slowly evolved into monkeys and then people as we know today. Both of these theories are based on chance, and that there is no God, and if there was, He had nothing to do with the creation of us. But Christianity teaches something these two theories don't. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Those are the first words written in the Bible, a book inspired by God himself. The Bible says that the earth, and everything around was created by the hand of God. Does chance and chaos (which those theories teach) override planning and design? Let's take a look at the universe to help find the answer.

Just looking at Jupiter, one of our solar systems many planets, we wonder how it could happen by chance. Jupiter acts as a galactic hoover. The giant planet made almost completely out of gas sucks in comets, and other things floating in space that could hit and destroy the earth. It has done that for thousands of years, before we even knew it.

The earth is a perfect rotating sphere. The earth is tilted at a perfect 23-degree angle, which allows perfect global distribution to the rays of the sun. Without this, it wouldn't be possible for the food chain to exist. Take into fact that if we were a few degrees farther from the sun, we'd freeze, and a few degrees closer, we'd disintegrate. Could this perfect plan happen by chance?

Let's take into account when the Bible was written, many years ago. Before Columbus sailed the sea, and before Galileo looked through the first telescope. No one knows the exact date each book of the Bible was written, but the Old Testament was most likely written before they even started counting time. In one of the books in the Bible (Isaiah 40:22), it says, "It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth…" Remember, this was written before it was proven that the earth was indeed round. Could it have just been chance that brought this person to write the truth of the universe? Or could it have been inspired by the one who made it?

Another point of God's existence is clearly shown throughout the Bible. The Bible states so many things that have been done after it was written. Chance, maybe, but what does true hardcore science have to say about some of these happenings? Here is one instance you might find interesting. Scientists found out that a day was missing. "Where could it have gone" "What could've happened?" Those were just some of the questions going through their heads. But one of the scientists, who was a Christian, knew exactly what happened. He looked to the Bible for the answer, and shared what he found out with his fellow piers. He shared with them Joshua 10:13 which says, "And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day." The Scientists were amazed. But the words "about a whole day" didn't totally answer their question. There was still some of that day left, and where did it go? The Christian scientist again went to the Bible and showed them Isaiah 38:8 which says "Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down." Again the Scientists were amazed. They found the missing day. What, or Who could've made the universe stand still, and move the earth ten degrees backwards? Could it have been chance, or was it planned?

We are now able to answer the question "Is there are God?" and "How did we get here?" Clearly stated by the facts above, chance does not fit in there. Chance can't make such designs. In the words of Carman, a Christian music singer "If there's a design, there's a designer. If there's a plan, there's a planner." And as we know, there is a design, therefore there is a planner. Only a perfect being could make such a perfect design. And God is perfect. There is no other possible answer to "How did we get here?" or "Is there a God?" Yes, there is a God. And God is our creator.
